Foxwing
a wip fansite for one of my favourite games: Petz
The original Petz games were created by P.F. Magic in the 90's, and the brand is currently owned by Ubisoft. Unfortunately the series stopped receiving new releases outside of rebranded console games by the early 2000s, leaving the Petz Community to slowly fade away.
Fortunately the remaining Petz Community is extremely dedicated to keeping Petz alive, allowing old and new fans to enjoy this cosy virtual pet game nearly 30 years later!
Foxwing & Charis
In 2000 my older sister introduced 7‑year‑old me to Petz 4. Didn't really care about the catz, but I had a Chihuahua called Candy that I adored. Every day I'd beg to have my turn early, to make sure Candy was played with and wouldn't run away. When I stopped playing my sister continued, but I insisted she returned Candy so she could find "a new home". I'm pretty sure she remained in the returned petz folder as neither of us realised petz were not actually found new homes when they were returned.
A few years later my sister saw Petz 5 in our local GameStation bargain bin, managed to convince our mother to buy it, and suddenly Petz was interesting to me again. This time I adopted two petz, a Chihuahua I named Jingle and a Papillon called Fluffy. They hated each other, but Fluffy did fall in love with my sister's Golden Retriever Abby and had a few lovely litters with her. This time I managed to keep playing for 2 years, until the family computer broke.
We did eventually get a new computer, but by that time I'd started secondary school and was suddenly "too cool" for a baby game like petz.
I suddenly started thinking about Petz in December 2025, and that led to me discovering a whole online community I had never known about. Maybe I'll stay interested for longer than a year this time.
Foxwing is just the silly name I decided to use for my imaginary kennel.
The Fox part is because in “the real world” my favourite breed of dog is the Toller
(
Royal Kennel Club breed profile for anyone interested
), which has an almost foxy face, whilst the wing is because they were developed to help hunt ducks. Ducks have wings. Put them together and you have Foxwing. Why not Foxwings? Because I'd already decided on Foxwing and now Foxwings sounds weird.
